More time?

Like a typical LDS Family, our life has become very busy and very complicated. It seems like time is speeding up and running us over right now. When looking at our schedules and our responsibilities, it has become very evident to my wife and I that something had to be eliminated from our lives. So, we chose something to eliminate and have followed through. So, this is what we did. We quit the paper route!!!

It has finally come to an end. Our term as paper route family is over. Saturday April 21, 2012 will go down in history as our last day on the paper route.

Below are a couple of pictures of our last day doing the paper route. I’m going to sleep in as long as I possibly can tomorrow and enjoy my extra few hours of sleep.

Temple Ground Breaking

I was going through some old video footage from an external hard drive that I have. There are several hours of video of birthdays, kindergarden plays, songs, christmas’s etc. One particular spot on my video files shows our family over at the Twin Falls Temple grounds before the Temple was built. My Dad came up with a briliant idea one day to go over to the future temple site, after the official ground breaking, and do our own ground breaking. So, my Dad got out two of his shovels, painted them both gold and marched us out to the small patch of dirt that was used by the official ground breakers.

A Mission

A few weeks ago I was trying to come up with a good Family Home Evening. Our ward had organized a night when all of the youth would learn about how to be a missionary and were coming over to our house to give my family the first lesson. We were to feed them dinner and then listen to their lesson and help them feel like a true missionary. I decided to use some of the foods that I had to eat while I was on my mission. I served an LDS mission to both Cali Colombia and to Quito Ecuador. So, I went to our local Latino grocery store and found some items that would give them a taste of what I ate while serving in South America. I fried up some platain bananas. I made a bunch of rice. I bought some Guayava candy and made some agua de panela.

Before these young men and young women came over to our house, I thought I would try out all of these things on my own kids. Of course, they all turned up their noses and didn’t taste all of the items with curiosity. They knew the tastes would be different so they only tried a little tiny bit.

In any case, I decided to pull out my mission treasure box and show them some cool stuff from Colombia and Ecuador. While rummaging through my box of stuff, I came across this little poem. I don’t remember when I found this on my mission but it was perfect for how I felt while serving for 2 years. I thought I would share this little poem with the world on my LDS Family website.

New Theme

I’m trying out a bunch of new themes for LDSFamily.net. I don’t know how I like them yet so you may see several changes over the next few days and weeks. I don’t want it to look girly but I want it to look like a family site. I’m afraid that most “bloggers” out there, at least Mormon Bloggers seem to be female. I know there are some awesome male Mormon bloggers out there like “a minority report” and “Mormon Online” and “Mormon Cartoonist“. But in general, the blogger world is filled with females. Hence, most of the wordpress themes cater to what a woman would love to use on their blog. There arn’t too many “dad”, “father”, “male” type themes out there so I’m doing my best to make this website look more manly without it looking to dark and rough.

So, If you like the current theme, please let me know.

Mormon Cartoonist

I follow a blog called Mormon Cartoonist. This guy creates creative cartoons that he submits to the Friend, The Ensign, The New Era, and other LDS magazines. Many of his works make it to print. Anyway, as I as reading through some of his cartoons I started thinking about what would make a good cartoon. I can’t draw worth a darn so being able to create one on my own would be a disaster, but, I could come up with an original idea for a cartoon. So, I started looking around in my life for something that might be cool illustrated in cartoon. One evening while talking to my sons, I came up with an idea for a cartoon. So, I went to Mormon Cartoonist and suggested a funny premise. A few days later I received a response that he would take my idea and make a comic that would come out in February. Well, February is finally here and below is his cartoon based from my idea.

Daily Temple Vid

I’ve seen a few videos lately of people that will video something every day. One video was of a kid that took a video of himself doing a flip every day for a month. Another video was a 1 second snippet of a girls day for a full year. So, in honor of these two videos, I decided to take my flip video with me every day and video something. After a little bit of thought, I decided to take a video of the Twin Falls LDS Temple. I don’t drive by the temple every day but it is close to my house and if I plan it right, I can drive past every single day. So, I took my Flip Video and filmed some snippets from each time I passed by the Mormon Temple in Twin Falls. Below is my edited movie.

The Mormon Channel has introduced a new ”Mormon Music Channel” where you can hear uplifting LDS music streaming 24 hours a day.

Today, they begin playing music for the Christmas season!

The Mormon Channel is the official radio station of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Elders Quorum Lesson

I had to give the Elders Quorum lesson last Sunday so I thought I would do something new and creative, so, I checked out a light box from the library and showed these two videos.

The first video is from Mormon Messages which talks about the 400 year anniversary of the Bible being translated into English. Then, I showed snippets from President Packer’s address at General Conference in April of 2011.

I think the Elders in the quorum liked the change in the lesson format. Who doesn’t like watching a little video here and there.

As I was reading some articles from the Back Bench of the Bloggernacle, I came across an interesting piece of information I thought I would share on this website. I discovered that the LDS Church has updated all of the New Testament Stories. You can find all of these videos at this website address. http://www.youtube.com/user/MormonMessages#g/c/299A568C7EF6A6CB. The video’s are not high quality action videos but I think they are good enough to keep kids interested in the stories of the Bible. In fact, this article talked about using one of these videos for their nursery lesson. What a great idea. Use your resources (as the scouts always say) and show a quick little video about a story from the New Testament. This is also a great resource for FHE (Family Home Evening). Below is the video that the article was talking about.
