General Conference Wordle

For the last several conferences, I have shown wordles (word clouds) of the text from general conference, which show the frequency of use of words (except words like it, the, and and). Frequency of use determines the word size.

Below is a wordle prepared by Connor Boyack of the text from all the talks from the April 2011 general conference. Click the graphic to see it full-sized. You can see other designs on his site.

Conference Quotes

Here are some of my favorite quotes from General Conference Priesthood Session April 2010. These are a few phrases that I liked.

President Henry B. Eyring:
School of the Priesthood
He has mastered the eternal curriculum.

President Thomas S. Monson:
What do I deal with every day that causes me to weep sometimes late into the night? I thought that I would try to address a few of those.
In the three years since I was sustained as President of the Church, oddly the saddest and most discouraging responsibility I have each week is the handling of cancellations of sealings.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf:
Through the Priesthood, the very power of godliness is manifest.
Somewhere between the hearing, the writing of a reminder on our smart phone, and the actual doing, our “do it” switch gets rotated to the “do it later” position.
Find Joy in Priesthood service. During my career as an airline pilot I had the opportunity to be a check and training captain. Part of my training was to test and train experienced pilots. I found that there were pilots who, after even after many years of flying professionally, never lost the thrill of climbing into the atmosphere.

Geocaching

It has been a long long time since I pulled my GPS out of my Swag Box to track down a cache. I’ve just been so busy with other stuff that I just haven’t had a chance to go geocaching. Last week the Scout Master in our ward called me up to ask if I would teach a class about geocaching to the scouts in our Mormon Ward. I said yes and started to rummage through all of my goecaching stuff.

I found a bunch of stuff that I had almost forgotten about including the fact that I still have a Travel Bug out there in the geocaching world. So, I logged into my Geocaching.com account and checked it out. To my amazement, this little travel bug named “Tree chain” had made quite a few trips around this small world of ours. Below is how many miles this little travel bug has logged and below that is a picture of where it has been.
