This coming weekend is September 11th and what will the Carter Family be doing? We will be helping out with a huge service project. Our Stake has decided to join several other Stakes of the LDS Church to help clean and improve our surroundings. The Idaho State Journal wrote an article about this upcoming event which should include around 10,000 members of the Mormon Church.
Our particular LDS Ward has been assigned to travel to Auger Falls and re-seed an area that had burned earlier this summer. We were instructed to bring grubby clothes, rakes, gloves, seed spreaders etc. They are hoping to be able to plant enough grass down there that will grow quickly and replace the burnt vegetation.
It should be an awesome site with all of the Youth and Adults from Mormonfamilies from all over Twin Falls. I’ll take a video camera along and post some nice pictures of the project.
In last month’s LDS youth magazine the New Era there is an article about how Scouting and the Priesthood support each other. I decided to cut the magazine cover off and post it in the Aaronic Priesthood room at church. This is what it looks like.
There are a few articles in this Mormon magazine that are great for young men to read. One of the articles was about a young priesthood holder that was putting together an eagle project. The article was called “He’s Got Game”. He gathered together a bunch of youth and leaders and had them all bring a ball to an organized game of soccer. At the end of the game, he rounded up all of the balls that were donated and boxed them up to be shipped to needy kids in third world countries. I thought it was a great idea so I gave the article to my son to see if it would spark any excitement since he will be working on his Eagle Project soon.
The Mormon Church has created a way to send money to the relief efforts in Haiti. Donations can be sent to the LDS Philanthropies organization of the LDS Church. I hope that my readers will help spread the word to help increase donations for this worthy cause.
