There are a few articles in this Mormon magazine that are great for young men to read. One of the articles was about a young priesthood holder that was putting together an eagle project. The article was called “He’s Got Game”. He gathered together a bunch of youth and leaders and had them all bring a ball to an organized game of soccer. At the end of the game, he rounded up all of the balls that were donated and boxed them up to be shipped to needy kids in third world countries. I thought it was a great idea so I gave the article to my son to see if it would spark any excitement since he will be working on his Eagle Project soon.

Required Merit Bages

Along with these merit badges, we are encouraging the young men to also pass of some of the Duty to God requirements. DTG should go hand in hand with the Scouting program. To demonstrate this, I have put together a list of “similar” requirements in each that match. Here is what I have put together.

Communications

Requirement #3 = Page 14 Deacons DTG #3 “Give a talk in Priesthood or Sacrament Meeting”

Requirement #4= Page 24 Deacons DTG #3, “3. Show a parent or a priesthood leader that you know how to use proper manners while eating, greeting acquaintances in formal and informal settings, greeting a person of authority, and introducing a speaker at a public event”

Citizenship in the Community

Requirement #7 = Page 14 of Deacons DTG #2 “Participate in 2 Quorum Service Projects”

Family Life

Requirement #5 = Page 13 of Deacons DTG #7 ” Perform at least 2 service projects for your family each year.”

Requirement #3 = Page 13 Deacons DTG #5 “With the help and permission of a parent, prepare at least 2 meals for your family. Where possible, also wash and iron your clothes for 1 month.”

Requirement #6 = Page 13 Deacons DTG #3, “Under the direction of your parents, organize and teach at least 4 family home evening lessons each year. You may want to consider using topics from For the Strength of Youth.”

K9 Web Filter

So, today my friend came up to me and told me that when he left from church after hearing about the free web filter, he picked up a copy. He wasn’t sure if he would ever use it but he took it home and he put in a drawer. Several months later he was surfing around the internet and came across a bad website which caused many other website to pop up on his screen. He was appalled. He remembered Coby’s Eagle project and dug through his drawer for the CD. He found the CD, installed it, and said that he hasn’t had a problem since.

What a great success story for an Eagle Project that finished over a year ago. Great Job Coby!
