Geocaching
It has been a long long time since I pulled my GPS out of my Swag Box to track down a cache. I’ve just been so busy with other stuff that I just haven’t had a chance to go geocaching. Last week the Scout Master in our ward called me up to ask if I would teach a class about geocaching to the scouts in our Mormon Ward. I said yes and started to rummage through all of my goecaching stuff.
I found a bunch of stuff that I had almost forgotten about including the fact that I still have a Travel Bug out there in the geocaching world. So, I logged into my Geocaching.com account and checked it out. To my amazement, this little travel bug named “Tree chain” had made quite a few trips around this small world of ours. Below is how many miles this little travel bug has logged and below that is a picture of where it has been.

Scout Camp
Most LDS Families participate in the Scouting Program in their individual wards. Each LDS Ward has their own troop and patrol. So, as one of those Mormon Families, we send our 12 to 14 year old boys up to Scout Camp. We happen to go to Camp Bradley Idaho for camp. At camp, the young men earn merit badges and have a chance to “rough it” for a week.
Each year the Stake Young Mens Presidency goes up and feeds all of the scouts from our stake. I have had the privilage to go up 3 times now and do just that. When I’m up there, I usually try to encourage my son to finish off his merit badges and sometimes we do something fun.
This year I decided to make a little video commercial. It was fun to make and will be a great memory of Scout Camp. This is a Spoof of the Old Spice Commercial that you may have seen on the internet or on TV. Make sure you take a look at the bloopers too.
Summer Activities
One thing about a Mormon family that you can count on is that they are always busy. Take our family as a case in point. This summer we had NYLT (National Youth Leadership Training), High Adventure Camp (which didn’t work into the schedule this year), Scout Camp (which will be next week for Andy), EFY (Especially for Youth), Girls Camp (which is happening next week and my wife will be a leader), weddings and receptions (which was great because my Brother got married), Family Reunions practically every month, and we try to squeeze in a Family Vacation as well. We have had so many activities that it seems that we haven’t really been together as a “whole” family very often.
Even though our summers are very full of activities, they are all growing experiences that hopefully build character, responsibility and leadership. It also helps teach our children what is like to be away from home and hopefully, in a positive way, teach them to be more independent. That way, our children will be ready to leave the nest when it is time to head off to college.
Next week will be the craziest. I’m planning on traveling up to Scout Camp, Deanna will be helping at Girls Camp, we have a family reunion and we have a wedding reception. After that week, we might be home for a little while just to vegetate and enjoy having our family all together again (if we can keep them from fighting).
