Eagle Project
I heard a great story in church today about Coby’s eagle project. I wrote a blog post a while ago about his eagle project just in case you want to read more about what he did. In general, his project was organized to hand out a free copy of a web filter to anyone in our Stake. He burned 100 copies of this filter and handed them out at different wards in our stake. The filter is called K9 web filter. This all happened probably a year and a half ago.
So, today my friend came up to me and told me that when he left from church after hearing about the free web filter, he picked up a copy. He wasn’t sure if he would ever use it but he took it home and he put in a drawer. Several months later he was surfing around the internet and came across a bad website which caused many other website to pop up on his screen. He was appalled. He remembered Coby’s Eagle project and dug through his drawer for the CD. He found the CD, installed it, and said that he hasn’t had a problem since.
What a great success story for an Eagle Project that finished over a year ago. Great Job Coby!
Voices
I guess every family gets to this point at sometime in their family’s life cycle. Our kids are starting to sound like us, the parents. Let me explain.
Tonight, we went to my son’s Court of Honor where he earned 9 merit badges. We were all very proud of his accomplishment. He has now earned enough badges to advance to the rank of “Star“. Most of these Merit Badges came from his work up at Scout Camp (Camp Bradley to be specific). Although we are very excited about his progress, our discussions with friends in our lds ward was that our kids are starting to sound like us on the phone. One friend commented that when she would get on the phone, then immediately think they are talking to me or my wife and just rattle on about the events of the day and then notice that there isn’t an immediate response. The sheepish reply was, “I’ll get my Mom for you, just a sec.” Of course, the caller is embarrassed to have just assumed that they were talking to Deanna.
I guess everyone reaches that point, but I guess it has just become more and more noticeable these last few week. I guess our kids are growing up and now are starting to sound like us, for better or for worse.
On My Honor
I posted something a while ago on my personal blog about putting pictures, images, statements, quotes and things like that in our LDS Church rooms dedicated to the Aaronic Priesthood. I have not put anything in the “Aaronic Priesthood” room for quite a while so I put this together quickly on Monday in hopes that I can pin it up in the room this Sunday. I know it isn’t really about the priesthood, it is more geared towards the scouting program but the principles go hand in hand.
If you don’t already know, this is part of the Scout Oath which reads, “On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty, to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; to keep my self physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.” I figured that I put in enough items to bring that oath into their minds.
